What is the Guntersville Getaway? Well, it’s an annual gathering of the Birmingham Grotto and friends at Guntersville State Park. The Getaway was founded by Jimmy Harrison, and has been a fixture for many years. Detail, Details, Details:

Date: February 19-21, 2010

Cost: There is a $10 per person admission fee that helps cover the cost of the cottage rental. If you wish to participate in the bed raffle (see below), the admission fee is $20. You need to be on-site by 9:00 pm Friday night to enter the bed raffle, or pre-pay your registration fee to our Treasurer.

Lodging: The Grotto rents two lakeside cottages: One “party” cottage and one “quiet” cottage. Each cottage has three beds (six beds total). Two of these are King Size beds and four are double beds. These beds are raffled off on Friday night. The entry fee for the raffle is $10 above the normal admission fee (for a total of $20).

“Pitching” a sleeping bag on the floor of either cottage is permitted and included in the $10 admission fee.

Food : The lakeside cottages have full kitchens available for the preparation of food. The newly renovated State Park Lodge restaurant should be open for your dining pleasure. Fast food is available in the city of Guntersville (about a twenty minute drive). We often have a pitch in, pot luck dinner on Saturday night.

Beverages: The Grotto will provide a keg for your enjoyment. Please bring cups of your choice.

Activities: Friday Night Poker, Saturday Ridgewalk with Dave Howell, Saturday Night Grotto Auction

Auction: Saturday evening will be the traditional Grotto auction. Please bring any surplus caving/camping gear (or anything really) and donate it to the auction. The auction is our Grotto’s biggest fundraiser.

Reminders: If you arrive after sunset, you will need to check-in with the guard at the gate to the State Park. He will require the name of the person reserving the cottage. (The name will be posted soon)
